A New View of Sustainability
The conventional view of sustainability shows three overlapping circles called “people, planet, and profit,” as shown on the left diagram. The goal is to conduct business within the small region of overlap. But this view gives the impression that sustainability is a limitation whereby organizations can pursue only a small fraction of the possibilities that would otherwise be available. This is hardly inspiring.
At Pañña, we see sustainability as offering an expansion of possibilities, as shown on the right. Instead of only working in the Profit portion, organizations are freed to include other dimensions, spreading into the whole circle. Uniting sustainability with your strategy and culture breaks the barriers that limit the creation of a fully aligned, adaptive, and intelligent organization.
